Yellow Jackets finally hit the road as a 6 seed

With Indiana deferring to host the opening round NIT game, Georgia Tech has had the luxury of playing at home in early round action. They scored double-digit wins over the Hoosiers and then Belmont, who was a 7 seed. The Hoosiers are a team in desperation after a sub-par season led to the firing of their head coach, but the 71-57 romp over Belmont was more impressive. GT held a slim lead at the halftime break and then pulled away throughout the second half.

The Yellow Jackets’ frontcourt has been very impressive. Junior center Ben Lammers (14.2 ppg, 9.4 rpg) has strung together consecutive double-doubles, lately getting 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and 10 boards in the win over Belmont. Senior forward Quinton Stephens (10.5 ppg, 7.7 rpg) had an even more impressive outing in the same contest with 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Rebels are on fire from downtown

Ole Miss blazes into the quaterfinals with a red-hot offense, blowing past Monmouth and Syracuse with 176 total points. The Orange were able to get past those off-the-field issues between head coach Jim Boeheim and the city of Greensboro, but they faltered against the Rebels in an 85-80 loss. Ole Miss prevailed by hitting an astonishing 15-of-32 3-pointers — over half of their offense was generated from outside the perimeter.

Sophomore guard Terence Davis (14.9 ppg, 5.4 rpg) was responsible for a lot of the offense with 30 points on 6-of-7 made 3-pointers. He’s delivered 19 or more points in three of his last four games, including 26 points that nearly helped knock off Arkansas in the SEC tournament. Junior guard Deandre Burnett (16.8 ppg) was also responsible for 5 3-pointers, and he’s been on fire from downtown hitting 15-of-27 3-pointers in the last four games.

Georgia Tech is:

  • 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games after three or more consecutive home games
  • 1-6-1 on the Under in their last 8 games overall

Ole Miss is:

  • 5-0 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games
  • 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against ACC opponents
